Summary:

Lake Elmo Elementary is a public elementary school serving 653 students in grades K-5 in the Stillwater Area Public Schools district in Lake Elmo, Minnesota. The school consistently performs above state and district averages in MCA-III Math and Reading assessments, with particularly strong performance in 4th grade Math. Lake Elmo Elementary's Hispanic and White student subgroups rank in the top quartile of Minnesota elementary schools, while the school's performance for English Language Learners and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds lags behind.

Compared to nearby schools, Lake Elmo Elementary's academic performance is generally stronger than Rutherford Elementary and Lily Lake Elementary, which are also part of the Stillwater district. However, the high-performing Gate 4/5 school outperforms Lake Elmo Elementary across all subject areas and grade levels. Nearby schools in the Mahtomedi Public School District, such as O.H. Anderson Elementary, also demonstrate stronger academic performance compared to Lake Elmo Elementary.

Lake Elmo Elementary maintains a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 14.3 to 14.9 over the past three school years, which may contribute to the school's academic success. However, the school's performance for students from low socioeconomic backgrounds lags behind, suggesting that the school may need to focus on addressing the needs of this student subgroup to ensure equitable outcomes for all students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Lake Elmo Elementary is excellent. I have two children enrolled--one in the spanish immersion program. The teaching staff is easy to access, open with feedback, and very strong with their communication. The school leadership is fantastic, as well--clear with direction the school is going and often attending PTA meetings to share 1:1 information. This school feels like a community if you are looking for a school that will treat your child like an individual, but feel like a home away from home, this is truly it. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
