Lake Middle School

Summary:

Lake Middle School is a high-performing public middle school located in Woodbury, Minnesota, serving 1,145 students in grades 6-8. The school consistently ranks among the top middle schools in the state, with a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger and exceptional academic performance across all grades and subjects.

Lake Middle School's diverse student population, with a racial makeup of 62.45% White, 16.77% Asian, 8.91% African American, 5.5% Hispanic, and 6.2% two or more races, is a key strength of the school. The school's ability to support the academic success of diverse student subgroups, including female students, male students, and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, is particularly noteworthy. In comparison, nearby schools like Cottage Grove Middle School and Oltman Middle School have lower academic performance and rankings.

The relatively low percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch at Lake Middle School, ranging from 5.87% to 13.71%, suggests that the school serves a more affluent community compared to some of the other nearby schools, such as South St. Paul Middle School and Battle Creek Middle, which have much higher rates of free and reduced-price lunch recipients. This socioeconomic factor likely contributes to the school's consistently high academic performance and strong support for diverse student populations.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school has been a fabulous fit for my smart independent 6th grade son. I was a little apprehensive about sending him this school because of the class sizes and contemplated sending him to a private school. He has received excellent individualized attention and is currently getting all A's and has to work hard for those A's. He really enjoys all of his teachers. Close Quote

Open Quote I think this school has a lot of resources for kids who go to this school.Lake Middle School has also met the AYP standards. From my experience, teachers do their best to challenge students and work with them if they are behind. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
