Plymouth Middle

Summary:

Plymouth Middle is a public middle school located in Plymouth, Minnesota, serving grades 6-8 with a total enrollment of 836 students. The school is part of the Robbinsdale Public School District, which is ranked 330 out of 463 districts in Minnesota and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While Plymouth Middle has a relatively diverse student population, with 46.05% White, 24.16% African American, 16.39% Hispanic, and other racial groups represented, its academic performance, as measured by MCA-III test scores, is generally lower than the state and district averages. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, only 20.19% of all students were proficient or better in Math, compared to 26.22% for the Robbinsdale Public School District and 45.47% for the state of Minnesota. The school's Reading proficiency rate of 41.61% is also lower than the district (41.4%) and state (49.85%) averages. Additionally, Plymouth Middle's performance varies significantly across different student subgroups, with the school ranking 59th out of 111 Minnesota middle schools for Asian students, but only 136th out of 179 for African American students and 140th out of 186 for Hispanic students in Math proficiency.

When compared to nearby middle schools, such as Wayzata Central Middle and Wayzata East Middle, both part of the higher-performing Wayzata Public School District, Plymouth Middle significantly underperforms across all subject areas and grade levels. The school's declining statewide ranking, from 268th out of 533 Minnesota middle schools in 2016-2017 to 372nd out of 545 in 2023-2024, suggests that it is struggling to keep pace with other middle schools in the state.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I went to PMS for two year (6th and one quarter in 7th), but I recently transferred because of how horrible it was. The kids there are extremely disrespectful and the teachers are stressed out. I just couldn't learn in the environment. I do not recommend PMS to anyone, unless you don't actually want to get an education. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
