Robbinsdale Spanish Immersion Elementary

Summary:

Robbinsdale Spanish Immersion Elementary is a public magnet elementary school in New Hope, Minnesota, serving around 700 students from kindergarten to 5th grade as part of the Robbinsdale Public School District.

Robbinsdale Spanish Immersion Elementary stands out for its diverse student population, with a racial makeup of 50.43% White, 31.57% Hispanic, 6.86% African American, 0.71% Asian, and 10.29% two or more races. Academically, the school consistently outperforms the district and state averages on the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA) in math, reading, and science, with 53.37% of students proficient or better in reading compared to the district's 41.4% and the state's 49.85%. However, the school's statewide ranking has declined over the years, from 263 out of 840 Minnesota elementary schools in 2014-2015 to 502 out of 881 in 2023-2024, suggesting it may be struggling to keep pace with improvements in other schools.

While Robbinsdale Spanish Immersion Elementary generally outperforms other schools in the Robbinsdale district, such as Zachary Lane Elementary and Sonnesyn Elementary, it lags behind the higher-performing magnet schools in the district, like the School of Engineering-Arts at Olson. The school also faces challenges in supporting the academic achievement of its more disadvantaged student populations, with 33.86% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch and lower rankings for multi-racial students and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Right up & above statewide testing scores all while being educated in Spanish. There should be bonus points for being able to take the standardized tests in English even though education is in Spanish. These kids amaze me ! Not to mention one of the biggest chess clubs in the cities. Close Quote

Open Quote For a school with ~650 students, there is not enough office staffing.
Office turnover also might be due the Principal's leadership style towards workers and volunteers.
Thankfully the students get above average instruction, and their test scores reflect that. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
