Central Middle School

Summary:

Central Middle School is a public middle school located in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, serving grades 6-8 with a total enrollment of 1,909 students. The school is part of the Eastern Carver County Public School district, which is ranked 69 out of 463 districts in Minnesota and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Central Middle School has a relatively diverse student population, with 50.76% White, 17.92% African American, 9.06% Hispanic, and 15.14% Asian students. The school consistently ranks among the top middle schools in Minnesota, with a statewide ranking of 19 out of 521 schools in the 2020-2021 school year and a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger. However, the school's statewide ranking has declined to 66 in 2022-2023, despite maintaining a 4-star rating. Central Middle School's performance on MCA-III assessments is generally higher than the state average, particularly in reading, where the school's proficiency rates are around 60% for all grades, compared to the state average of around 50%. The school's performance for Asian and White students is particularly strong, ranking in the top 10-40 middle schools in Minnesota, but the performance for African American, Hispanic, and low-socioeconomic students is not as strong.

When compared to nearby middle schools, Central Middle School generally outperforms schools in the Shakopee Public School District, such as Shakopee East Middle School and Shakopee West Middle School, but lags behind the top-performing schools in the Minnetonka and Edina Public School Districts, such as Minnetonka East Middle and Minnetonka West Middle. Additionally, Central Middle School has seen an increase in the percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, from 18.67% in 2021-2022 to 29.96% in 2022-2023, which may indicate an increase in the school's socioeconomic diversity and the need to provide additional resources and support for these students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Disappointed in how the school reacts to parental concerns about grades. Often received platitudes and pats on the back with little to no help. Then when the academic issue becomes huge they come running . . . .you need to do more, why didn't you, etc. Refuse to help before the problem gets out of hand, then reprimands when it does get out of hand. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
