Jonathan Elementary

Summary:

Jonathan Elementary is a public elementary school located in Chaska, Minnesota, serving students from kindergarten to 5th grade as part of the Eastern Carver County Public School District. With a student population of 556, the school consistently ranks among the top elementary schools in Minnesota, maintaining a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Jonathan Elementary's academic performance is particularly impressive, with proficiency rates that significantly outpace the state and district averages in Math, Reading, and Science. In the 2023-2024 school year, the school's proficiency rates were 71.58% in Math, 65.83% in Reading, and 75.53% in Science, compared to the state averages of 45.47%, 49.85%, and 39.56%, respectively. The school's performance is especially strong in 3rd grade Math, where 80% of students were proficient or better, compared to the state average of 58.79%. Additionally, Jonathan Elementary ranks highly in the state for the performance of specific student groups, such as male students, multi-racial students, and special education students.

While Jonathan Elementary has a predominantly White student population (76.98%), the school's racial makeup is relatively diverse compared to some of the nearby schools, such as Clover Ridge Elementary (26.64% non-White) and Aspire Academy Elementary (95.71% non-White). However, the school's relatively low percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch (10.98% to 17.81%) suggests that it may not be as socioeconomically diverse as some of the nearby schools. Overall, Jonathan Elementary's consistent high performance, diverse student population, and strong academic outcomes make it a standout institution within the Eastern Carver County Public School District.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I have three children, and all have attended Jonathan Elem. It is a school filled with caring knowledgable teachers. My son has an IEP and we work closely with the Special Education Department, which is terrific. The Principal, Mrs. Wittman-Beltz is wonderful as well. She knows us all by name, even with such a large school. She is all business, but with a soft side.

I would pick no other school to send my children. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
