The school's test scores are generally higher than the state averages in English Language Arts and Math for grades 3-5, but lower than the district and state averages in 5th grade Science. When compared to nearby schools like Indian Lake Elementary and STEM Academy, ClimaxScotts Elementary's performance is mixed. While it outperforms the state averages in some areas, it lags behind these higher-performing schools. The school's statewide ranking has also declined in recent years, from 769 out of 1,548 Michigan elementary schools in 2015-2016 to 822 out of 1,486 in 2023-2024. Addressing the challenges of high chronic absenteeism and learning from the successes of nearby schools could help ClimaxScotts Elementary improve its overall performance and better serve its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote They are closing down the intermediate school due to lack of funds. The 4th and 5th graders will be moved to the elementary and the 6th graders will be moved to the High School. The sinking fund is gone. They are pulling money from the general fund to pay school repairs. Which means fewer teachers, less money for supplies, athletics will become "pay to play". The school system is sinking fast. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
