This relatively small school consistently outperforms the district and state averages in academic proficiency, ranking 29th out of 290 Maine elementary schools and earning a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Friendship Village School's strong academic performance is evident in its high proficiency rates, with 78.57% of students proficient or better in English Language Arts and 65.12% proficient or better in Mathematics, compared to the district averages of 62.71% and 43.87%, respectively. The school's low student-teacher ratio of 9.3 students per teacher is also a key factor in its success. While Friendship Village School's academic performance is impressive, the school has experienced fluctuations in its chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 17.3% in 2020-2021 to 43.9% in 2021-2022. Additionally, the school's student population is predominantly white, with only 7.14% of students identifying as non-white in the 2022-2023 school year. However, the school's strong rankings and academic achievements suggest that it may be an attractive option for families in the Friendship area, and there may be opportunities for the school to collaborate with other high-performing schools in the region, such as Great Salt Bay Community School and Nobleboro Central School, to share best practices and resources.

Open Quote One of my close friends was bullied at the Friendship Village School and the principle said she would do something about it, they did nothing to help her! They just ignored it. The Friendship Village School is just sad! Do not send your kids here, send them to the Miller School in Waldoboro. Close Quote

Open Quote I agree with the other parent. The kids are unhappy and the teachers don't act to happy either. The school went through an emotional rollercoaster last year (teacher cut backs/eliminating all ed techs) and feels to have rolled over into this year. Most teachers are crabby to the children and have no patience. If I were able to send my child to another school, I would. Because I work I am unable to transport them. My child needs extra help but is unable to receive the help because there isn't enough Special Services Support staff; there is only ONE staff member to help all the children who need services and she can't be everywhere. I (as well as many other parents)have had issues with a teacher in the upper grades being mean to the children; my child doesn't want to go to school (which is hard). The principle is not helpful either. MANY changes need to be made. I for one would like to see all new staff come in, shake things up in the district, get some new blood in there - hopefully they might act like they want to be there and act like they enjoy their jobs! Open Quote This school used to be a wonderful school. Cut backs have been made in all ed techs and combining grades k-2. The school has become a mess and I can't wait for my child to get out of there. It has been "hinted" to other schools in the district that have become SIP schools to send their children to Friendship Village School, why? The classrooms aren't big enough to support bigger classes and the teachers will struggle as it is without any help in the room. If your child needs any extra help at all, your child will suffer. It has become sad there; used to be a wonderful, happy school, but now the children hate it there as well. I see this school has dropped 30 places and I fear we will continue to see it drop. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
