Monsignor Slade Catholic School

Both of my children attended Slade for K-5th grade. It is a great school and the teachers are wonderful. Both children were very well prepared and were at the top of their class when going to public school. Slade has a competitive academic program, great students, great teachers, and some wonderful activities and field trips.
Administration has had some tough breaks but the teachers never missed a beat and the daily routine was not interrupted. One teacher, Mrs, Fuecker, needs to retire as she is mean to the kids, rude, and yells nonstop. When brought to the administrations attention multiple times by multiple parents, nothing was done.
My children prospered and are better for attending Slade. Some awesome teachers are:

The attributes that drew us during the first Open House - competitive academics, caring teachers, involved parents, happy students, great extracurricular activities, early Spanish-language program - have all come true so far. Whenever I have questions about anything - in the classroom, at Extended Care, with activities - I have always received a quick, helpful response.

My children attended Slade and my friend's children attend Slade. Teachers are very willing to give up their lunch breaks to help students and they stay after school to help students also. The school has resource teachers to support students who need extra help also. My children had a good foundation to prepare them for high school, especially in math and science. They loved band and the extracurricular activities, especially art club. There are a wide variety of sports and activities, and a great parent volunteer program.

I am a Monsignor Slade graduate and I absolutely adored attending the school. I attended K-8 and made so many fond memories there. The establishment is filled with wonderful teachers that are willing to work with their students if they need extra help and a knowledgeable faculty that cares about each student. These members create a sense of community that is difficult to find at most schools. The education I received at Slade helped prepare me for high school and made my transition much easier than I thought it would be. I would recommend this establishment to anyone searching for a loving, caring community that provides a top-notch education.

I have 2 children at Slade and we are so happy with the school. They recently renovated the multi-purpose room, got a neat digital sign , and are installing smart boards and wireless Internet from a Knott Foundation grant. There are some exciting things happening there and I am so glad my children will benefit from these upgrades. If you are looking for a school where the teachers are friendly and knowledgable, the academic program and extra-curriculars are strong, and they are working hard to provide advances in technology, you need to visit Monsignor Slade. You will be very pleasantly surprised that such a big school gives you such a warm, welcoming feeling.

We moved to the area almost 5 years ago and can tell you that I did my homework checking out all the local schools, both private and public. I have not regretted our decision to place our 4 children at Slade. Being a military family I can tell you that Slade prepares your children for high school and for life. I have recommended Slade to many military families and will continue to do so!

Monsignor Slade Catholic School has provided my children with an excellent, faith-filled education and we have been very happy with the school for the past 12 years since my first child started there. The teachers, administrators and the staff have always been welcoming and kind to us. My kids love their teachers, have made some great friends and have enjoyed many of the extra-curricular activities offered there as well, including sports and band. You need to check the school out for yourself before you base your decision on a review one way or the other. What works for one child may not for another, you have undertand that is true for anything. That's why you need to form your own opinion by talking to the parents of current students, taking a tour and talking to the teachers and staff yourself. Every school is going to have its strengths and weaknesses, but we have found that Monsignor Slade has been a great place for our children to learn and we wouldn't have wanted them to attend an elementary or middle school anywhere else!

Slade's academic program could be great for some children but for those who may need extra help, forget it. Your child will be labeled "slow" or the teacher will say the child needs extra help. I have volunteered as a substitute teacher/parent and saw how some children are treated compared to others. The school definitely has a problem with children are of color. Most of the children who are in the "low" group or who are advised to stay back or of color. There have been several students who have been skipped a grade who were not of color and I did not understand why. The teachers are barely making the minimum requirements according to the Catholic school system for education. A lot do not have degrees and many or not certified to teach in Maryland. This is the reason so many children are coming home to parents confused and frustrated about the school work. I think its okay to have high standards but you have to be able to implement what you are teaching to every child and have competent teachers who understand that every child learns differently and at different paces. I have decided to withdraw my children from the school. I am sad and will miss the good teachers, staff and parents but my children are not happy.

This school has been really bad for the past years. I am a parent of a child who recently graduated and I am so I happy we are out of that school. The primary teachers are okay but since Mrs. Outten left I am not sure if there are any good teachers left. As your child move up, do expect to tutor them unless your are fortunate to be friends with the teacher's child or the "in crowd" you will get help as well as being put in higher classes. Most of the teachers don't have degrees and is not a certified Maryland teacher. I have often question their professional opinion but was wave off by administrators. The tuition is way too high and is not worth the price, considering you will be paying $10-12,000 for high school. Save a few thousand dollars and pick another local Catholic school. I really wish we did not wait so long!

This is school is not worth the price. If you have a child in primary years (1-3) its a really good school. The teachers are attentive and the kids love it BUT if your child is above the 3rd grade than look elsewhere! This school does not cater to families who want a good education for their children. You will find that most of the time you will be teaching your child, the parents have clique groups and most are unfriendly (like it used to be when you were in high school) and some of the children are actually bullied by other students. Expect no assistance or a response from the administrators. Do your homework and visit schools other than this one. Give yourself a choice. I wish I did.

Monsignor Slade Catholic School has an excellent academic program, many extra-curricular opportunities, a warm and friendly Catholic faith-filled environment and a wonderful staff that make it a great school for my children. They are very happy there and love to go to school each day. The music program is awesome, with an amazing music teacher that puts on special programs at the holidays, for grandparents, kindergarten graduation and even does musicals. The band program is the best around, as well, winning awards every year at competitions and helping the students do well when they go off to high school. I know my kids are getting a great all around education in Catholic surroundings. We love Slade!
