Open Quote The one other review disturbed me, so I had to leave my two cents. And that parent posted their review back in 2011. It appears Fountaindale wasn't performing then at the same level it is now. My children are part of the "lesser performing" group that the other parent refers to. So, I don't know much about the Magnet program. But, I LOVE Fountaindale.

So, dance is just "jumping around"? So what? It gets them up and moving and having fun. But, in my experience at Fountaindale I have seen some great performing arts. Keeping in mind, of course, that these are elementary school children. Not adult artistic geniuses.

I have been VERY happy with the education my kids have received thus far. I have one in 1st and one in 2nd. I have seen improvements overall and improvements on their test scores. Their classes are less than 20 students, so I feel like they receive plenty of one on one interaction. They both love their teachers, as do I.

The PTA has organized at least a dozen after school "academies" such as sign language, environmental club, and ballet. Just to name a few. All are free!

No, not all the kids in the school are perfect, ambitious little mini-adults. There is a great diversity. The diversity in race, personality, etc offer plenty of opportunity to educate my children and discuss with them my own expectations of how they behave. When one of my children tells me about the kid in their class that "got on red", it turns into a learning opportunity for them.

Fountaindale is a great school. I am excited to be a part of what they do for our children! Close Quote

Open Quote My child was part of the 2nd grade magnet program. She went into the class knowing far more than her fellow students. Now, after one year, her performance is suffering terribly and not even up to what she had been performing to previously. The year, in my opinion, was a complete and utter waste of time.

Why? I believe it is for several reasons. First, having a computer in a classroom is NOT an advantage, contrary to popular belief. It teaches you to take shortcuts and not think deeply. It teaches you typing instead of writing skills. Sloppy handwriting is not corrected whatsoever. Kids get more interested in gaming than thinking.

Second, being exposed to the population of the remainder of the school is more of a hinderance than the benefit received from the magnet classes, because the attitudes of the lesser performing kids rubs off and gets impressed on the student.

Third, the "dancing" amounts to no more than a bunch of jumping around to music. Having witnessed the recent performance, I was simply embarrassed for the kids and parents who had to tolerate how bad it really was.

Fourth, the after school daycare if full of kids with no ambition whatsoever. Again, this rubs off on the student to the point it degrades performance and attitude. The overall attitude I saw from most kids there was that "mistakes don't matter" and that sloppiness doesn't matter

Fifth. No homework given out WHATSOEVER for the entire year. WTF!? And this is a magnet program school? No way, no how.

We are pulling our child out of this school and sending her back. I wouldn't put my child in this school for anything. Close Quote
