Clinton Grove Elementary

Summary:

Clinton Grove Elementary is a public elementary school in Clinton, Maryland, serving 259 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Prince George's County Public Schools district, which is ranked 22 out of 25 in Maryland and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Clinton Grove Elementary stands out for its significantly higher percentage of African American and Hispanic students compared to nearby schools, such as Samuel Chase Elementary and Allenwood Elementary. The school also consistently ranks in the bottom quartile of Maryland elementary schools and performs significantly lower than the state and district averages on MCAP assessments, particularly in mathematics. Additionally, Clinton Grove has a very high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 59.75% to 81.08% over the past three school years, which is significantly higher than the surrounding schools.

Despite these challenges, Clinton Grove Elementary has a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 10:1 to 13.1:1 over the past three school years, which is lower than the surrounding schools. However, this potential advantage does not seem to be translating into improved academic outcomes, as the school's performance has been declining over the past few years. While there are a few exceptions, such as the 5th-grade English Language Arts proficiency rate being higher than the district and state averages, the overall academic performance at Clinton Grove Elementary remains a significant concern.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school is an absolute disaster. Its ranked 150/150 in Prince George's County Public Schools. Its also ranked 832/850 Elementary Schools in the State of Maryland. The school was failing, but in 2012-2013 the county put in a crazy new principal. Don't believe me? Well over half the teachers left, paras left, custodial staff left in January, guidance consoluers left, all 3 secretaries left, other adminstrative staff left, and even some kitchen staff left. She disbanded the PTA her first year in. She has a horrible personality and the teachers either fear her or hate her. The kids have no discipline at all. They rule the day, substitute teachers know they can find a job at this school. I'm waiting for the county to move her to another school. Oh wait PGCPS gives promotions to horrible principals then wonder why outside of Baltimore City Public Schools they are dead last in everything. Glad I got out of this building, and I no longer teach. In short if this is your zoned school do what you have to do to ensure your children don't attend here. This year they had cases of Kindergarten students being left unattended at their house after school, or getting put on the wrong bus Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
