Allenwood Elementary

Summary:

Allenwood Elementary is a public elementary school in Temple Hills, Maryland, serving 325 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Prince George's County Public Schools district, which is ranked 22 out of 25 in Maryland and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Allenwood Elementary stands out for its diverse student population, with a significant percentage of African American (48%) and Hispanic (48.62%) students, which is notably different from the nearby schools. However, the school consistently ranks in the bottom quarter of Maryland elementary schools, with proficiency rates ranging from 9-33% across different subjects and grade levels, significantly below the state and district averages. Allenwood Elementary also struggles to support its most vulnerable student subgroups, ranking in the bottom 10-20% of Maryland elementary schools for African American, English Language Learner, and low socioeconomic status students.

While Allenwood Elementary faces these academic challenges, some of the nearby schools, such as Imagine Andrews Public Charter and Imagine Lincoln PCS, demonstrate higher academic performance, particularly in English Language Arts. Additionally, Allenwood Elementary's high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 61.82% to 81.23%, suggests that the school community faces significant socioeconomic challenges that may contribute to the academic struggles observed.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Bullies run the school and nothing is done about it. Learning and focus is place heavily on passing state exams while students that need extra learning resources are ignored and passed through the system. Every parent I know has opted to remove their child or children from this school and I'm now weighing out other school options for my children. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
