Summary:

Oakleigh Elementary is a public elementary school in Baltimore, Maryland, serving 502 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Baltimore County Public Schools district, which is ranked 17th out of 25 districts in Maryland and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Oakleigh Elementary faces significant challenges in terms of academic performance, with consistently lower proficiency rates on state assessments compared to the Baltimore County and Maryland state averages. The school has a higher percentage of African American (56.97%) and Hispanic (16.93%) students, and a lower percentage of White (13.15%) and Asian (4.98%) students, compared to nearby schools. Additionally, Oakleigh has a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 55.35% to 71.2% over the past three school years, which is significantly higher than the nearby schools. Despite having relatively high per-student spending, ranging from $14,178 to $16,513, the school's academic performance remains significantly below the state and district averages.

In comparison, Cromwell Valley Elementary Regional Magnet, a nearby magnet school, significantly outperforms Oakleigh Elementary and the other nearby schools on state assessments, with proficiency rates often double or triple the state and district averages. This highlights the potential impact of school choice and specialized programs on student achievement. Additionally, the school's challenges may be exacerbated by the unique needs of its student population, which includes a high percentage of socioeconomically disadvantaged students, suggesting the need for targeted interventions and support to address these issues.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Terrible school. My child been getting bullied all year and they won’t do anything to stop it at all. The principal needs to be fired for this school to improve. She has no heart to allow a child to be hit in the face and do nothing about it. And my son was hit in the face alone over 5x.. so you can see the picture .Do not send your child here!! About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
