Lansdowne Elementary

Summary:

Lansdowne Elementary is a public elementary school in Baltimore, Maryland, serving 598 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Baltimore County Public Schools district, which is ranked 17th out of 25 districts in Maryland and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Lansdowne Elementary has a diverse student population, with a higher percentage of Hispanic students (31.94%) compared to nearby schools like Halethorpe Elementary (34.8%) and Arbutus Elementary (40.31%). However, the school consistently ranks in the bottom quarter of Maryland elementary schools, with significantly lower performance on state assessments compared to the district and state averages. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, only 12.2% of Lansdowne students were proficient or better in Mathematics, compared to 19.3% in Baltimore County and 24.1% statewide.

Lansdowne Elementary also has a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 49.73% to 73.35% over the past 3 years, which is significantly higher than the surrounding schools. Despite these challenges, the school has a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 12.2 to 13 students per teacher over the past 3 years. This suggests that the issue may not be solely related to staffing levels, but rather the effective allocation and utilization of resources to address the unique needs of the diverse and economically disadvantaged student population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Excellent teaching environment, truly caring teachers and staff, and puts forth a personal strive for excellence in students. Very few schools can measure up to these high standards, Lansdowne Elementary is one of them. I'm proud to have my grandson attending here & would not have it any other way. Would recommend anyone with children or grandchildren that are ocnsidering moving to make the location decision based in large part because of this school, be sure to check the boundaries this school services! About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
