Pershing Hill Elementary

Summary:

Pershing Hill Elementary is a public elementary school in Fort Meade, Maryland, serving 556 students in grades K-5. As part of the Anne Arundel County Public Schools district, Pershing Hill stands out for its diverse student population and strong academic performance.

With a racial makeup that is more diverse than nearby schools, Pershing Hill consistently outperforms state and county averages in Mathematics, English Language Arts, and Science assessments. The school's Hispanic and Special Education students, in particular, demonstrate impressive results, ranking among the top Maryland elementary schools in these subgroups. However, the school's performance for Military Connected students is relatively lower compared to other local schools.

While Pershing Hill's overall ranking and rating have fluctuated over the years, the school maintains a high level of academic excellence. Nearby schools like Severn Elementary and Manor View Elementary also demonstrate strong performance in certain areas, providing opportunities for Pershing Hill to learn and improve. The school's diverse socioeconomic population, reflected in the varying percentage of free and reduced-price lunch recipients, further highlights the need for Pershing Hill to address the unique needs of its student body and ensure consistent academic success.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I loved one of the teachers there, Ms. Norris. My son and daughter both had her and loved her! We were sad when we moved. We were there in 2012-2015. If she is still in 4th grade, you should request her. She constantly kept parents up to date with events in the classroom, would call/email to tell me my kids had great days, and was very responsive whenever I had a question or concern. Loved her! Open Quote Very upsetting with the lack of effort by the teachers and staff in this school. We have lived all over the United States and our children have attended several different locations and this by far is the worst. Conferences are a joke. 4th grade teacher is never prepared and has nothing to show for school work examples positive or negative. Cannot answer general questions about daily class room routines or how the children work together. All she does is yell and makes students very upset. They do not let kids finish breakfast or lunch, my daughter has come home hungry and upset. I DO NOT recommend this school to anyone moving to the area. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
