Berkshire Country Day School is probably the best school for academics in the immediate area. It has a nice campus and committed parents and a dedicated though diminshed faculty. Where BCD has always been weak is on the emotional/personal/spiritual development side. After 3rd grade it’s a pretty heartless dog eat dog place. There are no real shared core values beyond providing a good academic curriculum. Over time the school has fallwen more and more behind the times in terms of creating a positive social enviorment and it’s reputation and therefore it’s enrollment have suffered. Various attempts to solve this well known problem have all ended up as window dressing and inflated marketing schemes. A recent bungled faculty layoff scandal seriously damaged the community. The school has gone through a hard decade. But with new leadership on the Board of Trustees this year and a new Administrative Team next year there is hope that the school will turn itself around as it has several times in the last 30 years.
