White Street Elementary School is a public school in Springfield, MA that serves 417 students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade. The school is part of the Springfield school district, which is ranked 328 out of 351 districts in Massachusetts and has a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Despite the district's low ranking, White Street Elementary stands out as a relatively high-performing school. In math, 36.9% of White Street students were proficient or better, compared to 16.34% for the district. The school also performs particularly well for its Hispanic and English Language Learner (ELL) student populations, with its Hispanic students ranking 43rd out of 446 Massachusetts elementary schools in ELA proficiency and its ELL students ranking 2nd out of 282 schools.

While White Street's overall ranking has fluctuated over the past decade, the school's consistent improvement in supporting its diverse student population is noteworthy. However, the surrounding lower-performing schools, such as Benjamin Swan Elementary, Washington, and William N. DeBerry, highlight the disparities in educational outcomes within the Springfield district and the need for continued investment and targeted interventions to ensure equitable opportunities for all students in the area.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My son has adhd and he has not received the help he needs from this school. The school went out of their way to knock on my aunts door to see if I lived there and when they found out I was no longer living at that address they said my child could no longer attend the school and gave me 2 days to change him to a different school. I'd love to take him out of this school and I've been trying and 2 days is not enough time due to my circumstances. They also have inappropriate books in school thay my son found in his classroom and showed his classmates yet he got in trouble because of it. I highly recommend you seek another school for your child. We have not had a good experience here. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
