Green Meadows Elementary

Summary:

Green Meadows Elementary is a public school serving 309 students in grades PK-8 in Hampden, Massachusetts, which is part of the Hampden-Wilbraham school district. The school generally performs on par with or slightly below the district and state averages on MCAS assessments, with 40.34% of all grades proficient or better in ELA and 46.67% in Mathematics. Green Meadows has consistently maintained a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger and ranks in the middle of Massachusetts elementary schools, typically between 390-444 out of around 930-940 schools.

While Green Meadows performs better for male students and students with low socioeconomic status compared to the state, its performance for White students is relatively lower, ranking 504 out of 753 MA elementary schools in 2023-2024. The school's consistent performance over time suggests a stable educational experience, but may also indicate a lack of significant improvement or growth. Compared to nearby schools, Green Meadows generally performs on par or slightly below, with Stony Hill School and Soule Road outperforming it on MCAS assessments.

Overall, Green Meadows Elementary appears to be a solid, middle-of-the-pack school that provides a consistent educational experience for its students. However, the school may benefit from examining the factors contributing to the performance differences between student subgroups and exploring ways to improve its academic outcomes to better compete with the higher-performing schools in the Hampden-Wilbraham district and the surrounding areas.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Went there as a middle schooler when Thorton Burgess closed. The transition was very rough for us. Now being in Minnechaug, I have come to the realization that Greenmeadows only caders to its younger students. But even then the staff couldn't handle a simple situation or put their two sense in with the parents. Anything to do with the middle school part of the school was turned away from. Any social issues were dismissed or were taken care of very poorly. I myself experienced harassment at the school and reported it to the principal. I was told my parents were going to be called and they would figure it out from there. In good old Green meadows fashion, nothing was done or taken seriously. As 6th to 8th graders, we should be treated fairly, problems like these were also seen in younger grades. My younger brother went there from kindergarten to 4th grade and was treated very differently than the other kids. He was in the middle of getting evaluated for autism when his 3rd-grade teacher recommended that my parents put him on drugs. I found it quite strange that the teachers had the nerve to be a doctor than to be a teacher and support these kids' educations. Don't put your kid through this school, the education is under par and will overwhelm your kid when they get to high school because they are so far behind. Trust me, I was the kid who got straight A's and still struggled when I got to high school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
