Brophy

Summary:

Brophy is an elementary school in Framingham, MA that serves students from kindergarten to 5th grade. The school has seen a steady decline in racial diversity, with the percentage of Hispanic students increasing from 55.38% in 2020-2021 to 60.57% in 2022-2023, while the percentage of White students has decreased from 30.04% to 25.46% over the same period.

Brophy consistently underperforms compared to the Framingham district and the state of Massachusetts in MCAS Next Generation assessments for English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. In 2023-2024, only 21.03% of Brophy students were proficient or better in ELA, compared to 22.43% in Framingham and 39.17% statewide. Similarly, only 17.76% of Brophy students were proficient or better in Mathematics, compared to 20.87% in Framingham and 40.91% statewide. Brophy's performance is particularly concerning for certain student subgroups, such as Hispanic, English Language Learner, Special Education, and Low Socioeconomic Status students, who rank in the bottom 20% of Massachusetts elementary schools.

While Brophy's performance is concerning, some nearby schools in the Framingham district, such as Mary E. Stapleton Elementary and King Elementary, have shown better academic outcomes. For example, in 2023-2024, King Elementary had 27.18% of students proficient or better in ELA, compared to Brophy's 21.03%. Addressing the unique needs of Brophy's diverse student body and implementing effective, evidence-based strategies will be crucial in driving academic progress and ensuring equitable educational opportunities for all students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
