Palmer River

Summary:

Palmer River Elementary School is a public school in Rehoboth, Massachusetts, serving 547 students from pre-kindergarten to 4th grade. The school is part of the Dighton-Rehoboth school district, which is ranked 176 out of 351 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating.

While Palmer River's student-teacher ratio is relatively low, ranging from 11.7 to 12.9 over the past three years, the school's academic performance has been a concern. Its MCAS proficiency rates in English Language Arts and Mathematics are generally lower than the state and district averages. For example, in 2023-2024, the school's ELA proficiency rate was 36.64%, compared to the state average of 39.17% and the Dighton-Rehoboth district average of 37.34%. In Mathematics, Palmer River's proficiency rate was 45.26%, while the state and district averages were 40.91% and 38.41%, respectively. Additionally, the school's statewide ranking has steadily declined over the past several years, from 369 out of 938 Massachusetts elementary schools in 2016-2017 to 502 out of 916 in 2023-2024.

Interestingly, when comparing Palmer River to nearby schools, such as the George R. Martin and Mildred Aitken schools in the Seekonk district, the Seekonk schools consistently outperform Palmer River and the state averages on MCAS assessments, despite having similar demographic profiles. This suggests that there may be opportunities for Palmer River to learn from the strategies and practices of these higher-performing schools.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Palmer River is an excellent school as I have children in Kindergarten and 3rd. The teachers are amazing always with willingness to help. In addition, they offer IEP programs for children who need help. Its approx. 22 diverse kids per classroom which is allot however, it works. I moved from CT and have to say Palmer River Elementary Rehoboth, MA is far beyond my expectations. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
