Boston Collegiate Charter School

Summary:

Boston Collegiate Charter School is a public charter high school serving grades 5-12 in Dorchester, MA, with a diverse student population. The school has consistently performed well on MCAS assessments, outpacing state and district averages in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. Additionally, Boston Collegiate Charter School maintains high graduation rates and low dropout rates, significantly better than state and district metrics.

Compared to nearby schools like Dearborn 6-12 STEM Academy, Excel High School, and Burke High School, Boston Collegiate Charter School stands out as a top performer, with notably higher proficiency rates in core academic subjects. The school's success in supporting the academic achievement of traditionally underserved student populations, including low-income and special education students, is particularly noteworthy.

While Boston Collegiate Charter School's statewide ranking has declined in recent years, from 1st out of 351 high schools in 2015-2016 to 176th out of 348 in 2023-2024, the school continues to deliver strong academic outcomes for its diverse student body. This suggests that the school's performance, while still impressive, may not be keeping pace with improvements in other high-performing schools across Massachusetts.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school practices discrimination. I had a child attend this school for two years. In those two years he was taunted & bullied by the staff. My child ended up with severe anxious issues. They would use any excuse to discipline him. So far as suspension for socks, detention for talking in the halls and even tried to hold my son back for failing 1 class. Never offering him tutoring or any extra help. The Dean at this school has zero experience in education and is over excited to discipline a child. I wish I never sent my child here this will effect him for the rest of his life. Horrible school. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
