Open Quote I am a parent who's child was "falling behind" at a wonderful private school. His self-esteem was so low and we could tell he was "hating" school. I am not faulting the school that he was at, they just go at a faster pace and either you keep up, or you struggle if you don't "get it". We were doing tutors, Sylvan, etc. and this was helping, but not totally because he was always a couple of steps behind. We considered holding him back, but everything we read said not to(he was past 4th grade). A teacher from our school told us about Brighton and how much she has seen it help children who have "left and come back". I thought it was only for Dyslexia (which my child is not), but it's for any diagnosed learning disability. They are locally known (amongst teachers, but not parents)as a school that can do "miracles". They are small so they can hone in on where your child has deficiencies, and specifically work on them. This is something that the local private schools are just not capable of, due their size. We also looked into Dunham, but they were not as open to us "coming and leaving", as they would like you to stay there permanently. We were not ready to give up on our former private school, and he's got siblings that are still there. Brighton is more of a "transition" school because most kids come from private, local schools, stay for a year or two,"catch up", and then return back to their former school when they are ready to be "main-streamed" back in. Teachers are of the highest caliber, which is a must at a school where your child needs a "little more". I would like to see them offer non-competitive sports to the children. I understand though, that is not what they are about (and it's also not the reason you send your child there). You are responsible for extra-curricular activities on your own. It is very expensive (as expensive as Dunham after all of the extra "fees" are taken in), but truly worth every penny! My son's self-esteem has transformed 180 degrees since last fall. They TRULY empower the student (that's their motto) and make sure they "get it", therefore the child doesn't feel like a failure and succeeds. More people should know about Brighton because so many children could benefit from this school. After we started we found out many people we know of that had a child go there for a year or two, but we never knew. I think people are embarrassed to admit they have a child who needs a "little more", but we should talk because it only hurts the children. There are many well-known doctors, lawyers, and state politicians' that have children at Brighton. I just wanted to say if you're child is struggling please look into Brighton. It's the best thing we have ever done for our son!!! Close Quote

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
