Youree Dr. Middle Advanced Placement Magnet School

Summary:

Youree Dr. Middle Advanced Placement Magnet School is a public middle school in Shreveport, Louisiana, serving 1,087 students in grades 6-8 with a diverse student population. This school consistently outperforms the Caddo Parish and Louisiana state averages in both Mathematics and English Language Arts (ELA) proficiency rates across all grade levels, making it a standout institution within the district.

As an "Advanced Placement Magnet School," Youree Dr. Middle offers advanced academic opportunities for its students, with a particular focus on supporting the academic achievement of African American and Hispanic students, who consistently outperform their peers at the district and state levels. The school's racial diversity, with a significant representation of African American, Hispanic, and Asian students, is another notable aspect that sets it apart from many nearby schools, such as Northside Middle School, Fair Park Middle School, and Caddo Middle Career and Technology School, which have lower academic proficiency rates in Mathematics and ELA.

While Youree Dr. Middle's statewide ranking has fluctuated over the years, the school has maintained a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger, suggesting that there is still room for improvement to reach higher performance levels. However, the school's recent decrease in student-teacher ratio, from 28.4 in 2020-2021 to 23.6 in 2022-2023, may have contributed to its strong academic outcomes and indicates a commitment to providing a more personalized learning environment for its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I have great teachers, but I don't feel like the curriculum is advanced enough for me. This is a very easy school (I almost have all 100s on my report card.) So if you're looking for something more challenging, I would suggest you test for Caddo Middle Magnet. Overall it is a good school but there are a lot of cliques. Also I think that the kids here are kind of rude and immature. Another thing I don't like about this school is that in the winter, you are always cold (obviously) but this is an outdoors school so they can't heat the hallways when it gets cold. Also, I feel like I have to wake up too early. My friends and I usually get up at around 5am-6am, which studies have proven is way too early for kids to wake up and properly focus on their school work. So I don't really like this school but it's alright. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
