Mooringsport Elementary School

Summary:

Mooringsport Elementary School is a public elementary school serving 338 students in grades PK-5 in Mooringsport, Louisiana, which is part of the Caddo Parish school district. The school's academic performance, as measured by LEAP test scores, is generally below the Caddo Parish and Louisiana state averages, with particularly low performance for its white and low socioeconomic status student subgroups.

Mooringsport Elementary has a significantly higher percentage of white students (77.81%) compared to the surrounding schools in Caddo Parish, which have much higher percentages of African American and Hispanic students. This stark contrast in racial makeup suggests potential issues with equity and access to quality education. Additionally, the high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch at Mooringsport Elementary, coupled with the school's low academic performance, indicates that socioeconomic factors may be playing a significant role in the school's challenges.

Interestingly, Mooringsport Elementary's academic performance is significantly lower than the nearby schools in the Bossier Parish district, such as Legacy Elementary, Benton Elementary, and Kingston Elementary, which all have much higher LEAP proficiency rates and overall school rankings. Furthermore, Mooringsport Elementary's school ranking and academic proficiency rates have generally declined over the past several years, suggesting that the school may be facing increasing challenges in providing a high-quality education to its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I absolutely LOVE this school, the teachers and the office staff are always professional and are willing to speak with you at anytime. They know you by name and know your child as well. NO child will be left behind in this school. Knowing your child is cared for and is loving school is something that I can say makes sending them away easier and less stressful as a parent and sure as a student. I can not say enough GREAT things about this school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
