Fairfield Magnet School

Summary:

Fairfield Magnet School is a highly-rated public elementary school serving 515 students in grades PK-5 in Shreveport, Louisiana. The school has consistently ranked among the top elementary schools in the state, earning a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger and boasting exceptional academic achievement.

Fairfield Magnet School's academic performance is truly remarkable, with 99% proficiency in both Mathematics and English Language Arts across all grades, significantly outperforming the Caddo Parish and Louisiana state averages. The school has consistently ranked among the top elementary schools in Louisiana, reaching as high as 1st out of 731 schools in the 2018-2019 school year and ranking 4th out of 675 in the most recent school year. Fairfield Magnet School has also shown exceptional performance across various student subgroups, ranking 5th out of 651 Louisiana elementary schools for male students, 6th out of 509 schools for African American students, and 10th out of 674 schools for students from low socioeconomic backgrounds.

While Fairfield Magnet School's academic success is impressive, it is worth noting that the school serves a relatively affluent student population, with only 20.58% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, significantly lower than the state and district averages. This raises questions about the role of socioeconomic status in academic achievement and the school's ability to provide equitable educational opportunities. When compared to nearby schools like A.C. Steere Elementary and Werner Park Elementary, Fairfield Magnet School stands out as a clear outlier in terms of academic achievement, highlighting the need for a deeper understanding of the factors that contribute to educational excellence.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Based on my 25+ years of teaching experience in several Caddo Parish Elementary Schools, in addition to have attended various public elementary schools as a child, I can sincerely say that Fairfield is unique is the best of ways.
Fairfield is a small sized school, 3 classes in each grade K-5 with a large variety of enrichment classes and a newly built library that serves as a vital integration of each classroom. We are always open for visitors to come and see the best kept secret in Caddo Parish. Come and see! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
