Captain Shreve High School

Summary:

Captain Shreve High School is a public high school in Shreveport, Louisiana, serving 1,851 students in grades 9-12 and part of the Caddo Parish school district.

Captain Shreve High School stands out from nearby schools like Southwood High, Booker T. Washington High, and Woodlawn Leadership Academy in several ways. It has a more racially diverse student population, with a higher percentage of White and Hispanic students. Academically, Captain Shreve performs better, especially in subjects like English and Biology, with 66% of students proficient or better in LEAP/English II compared to 37-45% at nearby schools. The school also ranks particularly well for its African American and Hispanic student subgroups.

However, Captain Shreve's racial diversity has been declining in recent years, and the school still lags behind the nearby Caddo Parish Magnet High School in overall academic performance. Additionally, Captain Shreve has a lower percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, suggesting a relatively higher socioeconomic status of its student population, which may contribute to the school's stronger academic outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Our kid was kept out of school for 5 years. The 26th District Attorney couldn't find Bio-NOT-AMOM. After spending $29k we did. We have TOTAL custody.
Every day we read to the kid, and he reads to us. EVERY DAY we go other math.
It's been 1200 days from the first day we when we went over 3rd-grade grammar with him.
He Comes Home Saying, "I got no homework." {cring at his vocab--it's what he hears in school.}
YET, he's reading at a 4/5TH grade level? The World History class he's in: the teacher Mr. Law fills out the test sheets for the kids {our kid could not pronounace/spell/or difine any of the words on Mr. Law's page}. YET the KID MAKES an 'A'. at every turn, the Shreve let's us down. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
