Warren Elementary

Summary:

Warren Elementary is a public elementary school located in Bowling Green, Kentucky, serving grades PK-6 with a total enrollment of 695 students. The school is part of the Warren County School District, which is ranked 75 out of 159 districts in Kentucky and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Despite its location in Bowling Green, Warren Elementary consistently ranks in the bottom 20% of Kentucky elementary schools, with a ranking between 516-670 out of 517-700 schools over the past 8 years. The school's performance on state assessments (KSA) is significantly below the Warren County and Kentucky state averages across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in 2023-2024, only 17% of 6th-grade students were proficient or better in Mathematics, compared to 51% in the Warren County district and 42% statewide. This underperformance is particularly concerning for the school's African American, Hispanic, English Language Learner, and Low Socioeconomic Status students, who are also ranked in the bottom 20% of Kentucky schools for these subgroups.

The high percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 83.49% to 91.94% over the past 3 years, and the relatively high student-teacher ratio, ranging from 14.1 to 16.2, may be contributing factors to the low academic performance at Warren Elementary. These challenges are in stark contrast to the nearby Briarwood Elementary, Cumberland Trace Elementary, and William H. Natcher Elementary schools, which have significantly higher academic performance, with 6th-grade Mathematics proficiency rates ranging from 63% to 68%.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Warren Elementary is one of the most culturally diverse schools in the Bowling Green/Warren County community. They have the highest English as a Second Language and Special Education population in the area. Teachers work hard to meet both the basic needs and educational needs of students. The Free/Reduced Lunch graph on this site is grossly inaccurate as the percentage of students receiving free/reduced lunch is well into the 90% range. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
