Bedford Elementary School

Summary:

Bedford Elementary School is a public elementary school serving 469 students in grades PK-6 in Bedford, Kentucky. The school is part of the Trimble County School District, which is ranked 158 out of 159 districts in the state and has a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger. Unfortunately, Bedford Elementary School has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Kentucky elementary schools, with a 0-star or 1-star rating from SchoolDigger over the past several years.

Bedford Elementary School faces significant challenges in terms of academic performance, with only 20% of 3rd graders proficient or better in Math and Reading, compared to 43% and 47% statewide, respectively. This pattern holds true across grade levels and subject areas. The school also struggles to serve its student subgroups effectively, ranking in the bottom half of Kentucky elementary schools for female, male, white, special education, and low socioeconomic status students. Additionally, Bedford Elementary has a very high percentage of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 58.59% to 61.41% over the past few years, which is significantly higher than the state average.

When comparing Bedford Elementary to other nearby schools, such as Centerfield Elementary in the Oldham County School District, it becomes clear that Bedford Elementary is an outlier in terms of academic performance, with proficiency rates often 30-40 percentage points lower. Despite being a low-performing school for several years, Bedford Elementary has not shown significant improvement in its rankings or test scores, remaining in the bottom half of Kentucky elementary schools for the past decade. Addressing the underlying factors that contribute to the school's low performance, such as resource allocation and district-level support, will be crucial for driving meaningful improvements and better outcomes for the students of Bedford Elementary.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I moved to this county in the year of 2002 looking for a good school for my daughter can go too. I moved away from Jefferson County dued to over crowded classroom and not enough help for the teachers, and of course crime and other illegals stuff that isn't control at all. This school I found out is small, but, the classes are small where teachers and volunteers can help the ones who needs help and all the students get the one on one that they need. I love this school very much and I am glad I pick this school and haven't regretted since. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
