As members of the student body at LCHS, we were a bit taken aback by our rating of "1 star". Our academic team successfully demolished the Hazard Independent (ranked 20) academic team. The rural community of Leslie County still bears the deep scars of extensive recreational drug use. The students at this school are HIGHLY intelligent and it is a shame that over 60% of their lives have been affected by this horrible strife. As well as the students, the staff are also to be highly recommended.
We do not feel the need to disclose the names of commendable staff members, but we assure you that they could very well have their pick of any of the schools you have listed in ranks 1-20.
As you can see, the problem here is not the lack of intelligence, it is the lack of resources. We can honestly say that our school has done more good with nothing than most schools have with everything.
The fact that every school sees us as a bunch of "drugged-out redneck hooligans" does nothing to raise our confidence. We believe it to be fact that lack of self esteem in a person(s) can only fuel other underlying problems, some of which are interminable.
In the words of a tiny white teddy bear sitting on the desk in front of us, "We'd stop eating chocolates, but we're not quitters!" (refering to our persistence in clearing our schools name of injustifiable accusations) Close Quote
