As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I feel the previous review hit the mark. Layne's Staff is a very caring and devoted staff. They do a fantastic job. The current Principal started in 2013-ish. He has really improved the school with his leadership. Every classroom has computers and tablets. There is a Technology Teacher, a PE teacher, and a music teacher. Budget cuts in the state and district caused the school to lay-off the art teacher two year ago. Budget cuts continued and last year (2015) the school did not continue with their hands on Science Curriculum (worm habitats, Real Butterfly life cycle terrariums, newts, and salamander ect). Clubs the school offers are: Robotics, STLP, Safety Patrol, Student Council, Chess Team, Academic Team, Basketball, Volleyball and Cheerleading. The Cafeteria staff is amazing. They are always decorating the cafeteria with themes and having parties during lunch time.

The previous review mentioned lack of parent involvement and they were 100% correct. If Layne does have a flaw it is that parents just aren't volunteering. Close Quote

Open Quote Layne is a wonderful environment for my two girls. The staff and teachers are all friendly and kind and seem to really care about each and every student. They offer a lot of free engagement activities for families and we always feel super welcome when we attend. Under new leadership the school has made excellent progress over the past two years. The exposure my children obtain from the other cultures and ethnicities at the school is priceless. I would give it 5 stars, but there is a real lack of parental involvement and consistant communication. I believe part of the problem to be the large populations of students whose parents do not speak English and/or the economic status of many of the families. The school is clean and well stocked with technological advances. My kids are thriving at Layne and I would suggest it to anyone looking for a school that's as diverse as the world we live in. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
