Tully Elementary

Summary:

Tully Elementary is a public elementary school in Louisville, Kentucky, serving 788 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Jefferson County school district, which is ranked 141 out of 159 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Tully Elementary consistently performs above the Jefferson County and Kentucky state averages in various subject areas, including Mathematics, Reading, Science, Writing, Social Studies, and Editing/Mechanics. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, Tully Elementary's 5th-grade students scored 51% proficient or better in Mathematics, compared to 30% for Jefferson County and 41% for the state. The school has a strong statewide ranking, typically placing in the top half of Kentucky elementary schools, and its SchoolDigger rating has fluctuated between 3 and 5 stars out of 5 over the past decade. Additionally, Tully Elementary maintains a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 17 to 17.1 students per teacher in recent years, which is lower than the district average.

However, while Tully Elementary's overall academic performance is strong, the school's rankings for special education and low socioeconomic status (SES) students have declined in recent years, dropping to 1 out of 5 stars in the 2023-2024 school year. This suggests that the school may need to focus more on supporting these student subgroups. Additionally, Tully Elementary is located in close proximity to several other high-performing elementary schools in the Jefferson County district, such as Lowe Elementary, Farmer Elementary, and Greathouse/Shryock Traditional, which consistently outperform Tully Elementary in academic measures, particularly in Mathematics and Reading.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The administrators and teachers are fantastic! My child has had exciting curriculum and been challenged to reach his potential, something he lacked from Smyrna Elementary. The school is organized and has a lot of great programs for all of it's students. We will miss the entire Tully staff when we move on to middle school next year. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
