Summary:

Fairdale Elementary is a public magnet elementary school located in Fairdale, Kentucky, serving grades K-5 with a total enrollment of 596 students. The school is part of the Jefferson County School District, which is ranked 141 out of 159 districts in Kentucky and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Fairdale Elementary has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Kentucky elementary schools, with a ranking between 501-570 out of around 684-687 schools over the past several years. The school has maintained a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger, except for the 2020-2021 school year when it received a 0-star rating. Fairdale Elementary's academic performance is significantly below the state and district averages, with proficiency rates that are consistently lower across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, Fairdale Elementary's proficiency rates in Mathematics and Reading were 10-15 percentage points lower than the state averages.

One notable finding is the stark contrast in performance between different student subgroups at Fairdale Elementary. While African American students at the school perform relatively well, ranking in the top 50 out of 140 Kentucky elementary schools, Hispanic students and English Language Learner (ELL) students perform poorly, ranking in the bottom 100 and 64, respectively. Additionally, Fairdale Elementary has a high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic status (SES) backgrounds, with 67.11% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, which is significantly higher than the state and district averages. This suggests that addressing the unique challenges faced by the school's diverse student population may be a key priority for improving its overall academic performance.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My son has went to Fairdale ever since he was in Kindergarten, he is now in the 3rd grade. I love this school because my son needs the extra help that some students does not and the staff here are so nice and helpful. Close Quote

Open Quote My daughter has excelled at Fairdale. Every time I walk in, I am greeted with a smile. The teachers really care about their students, and in our case, have gone above and beyond all expectations. They have done so much to advance her academic career. She was reading on a 2nd grade level in Kindergarten, and her teachers helped keep her from getting bored by giving her higher level sight words, until they were pulling words from a 6th grade list. I will always love Fairdale Elementary for everything they have done! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
