Summary:

Heartland Elementary School is a public elementary school in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, serving 559 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Hardin County School District, which is ranked 90 out of 159 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Heartland Elementary consistently ranks in the top half of Kentucky elementary schools, with a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger in recent years. The school's performance on the Kentucky State Assessments (KSA) is generally above the Hardin County and Kentucky state averages, particularly in reading. For example, in 2023-2024, 55% of 3rd graders at Heartland were proficient or better in reading, compared to 46% in Hardin County and 47% statewide. Heartland's performance is especially strong in certain student subgroups, such as Hispanic students and multi-racial students, where the school has ranked in the top 10-20% of Kentucky elementary schools in recent years. However, the school's performance for other subgroups, such as special education students and students with low socioeconomic status, is less impressive.

Compared to nearby schools in the Hardin County School District, such as Cecilia Valley Elementary, Radcliff Elementary, and Rineyville Elementary, Heartland Elementary generally outperforms them on academic measures like KSA proficiency rates. However, some schools in the neighboring Elizabethtown Independent School District, such as Morningside Elementary, have higher academic performance and lower percentages of students qualifying for free/reduced-price lunch.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My daughter just finished her last day as a 3rd grader at this school. She begged me to spend the day, I truly enjoyed myself. Up until recess time. First, all students, got to have a Popsicle and I thought that was awesome! It had to be at least 85 outside. ALL the teachers outside started eating a Popsicle there after. DID THEY OFFER ME ONE? NOPE! I kept looking at them ALL DEVOUR A POPSICLE WHICH HAD TO BE GOOD WITH IT BEING SO HOT OUTSIDE, BUT STILL NO OFFER. Then, I am taking pictures of my daughter, then a couple of the kids were acting like super stars asking me "Take one of ME!". I did! I showed them the picture and THEN I IMMEDIATELY DELETED IT.I understand about privacy matters, laws, ect. Some lady comes barking and gives me the third degree and told me that I need to put my my camera away and I should just put it away. She was so rude! She said in a threatening way that she was going to have to report it to the front. I said go ahead. Because I did take pictures and I deleted them as I said and I understand about privacy laws but I AM NOT GOING TO PUT MY CAMERA AWAY. MY DAUGHTER IS OUT HERE AND I AM TAKING PICTURES OF HER. She repeated "You can take pictures of your daughter but you cannot take pictures of any other children ." I guess I looked too stupid or ignorant to understand anything she just said since she was repeating herself again OR she wanted me to put my camera away in which case I have the right to have my camera out and take pictures of MY DAUGHTER. As we were being summoned to come in the Principal comes out to the play ground and meets me in the line where we were lined up to go inside. She basically said the same thing, I told her I did take the pictures, I deleted them, I understand there are privacy laws, and that other lady was being a real idiot to me about it. No, I did not use the word idiot, but! Her response was thank you and sorry for the other lady's bad behavior. Really? Is that other lady getting told, maybe approach people differently? One thing I notice about this school, I hate how everyone looks so unhappy. No one smiles, with the exception of a FEW teachers, EVERYONE looks so unhappy. We hated to transfer from New Highland. EVERYONE, WAS SO HAPPY there AND it showed! Close Quote

Open Quote This school is wonderful. It's more like a little family community rather than a school. I think it's wonderful that any child could walk though the hallways and there isn't a staff member there that does not know that child's name. When my child leaves each morning I know that she is going to a safe environment and that she is receiving a top notch education. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
