Bridgeport Elementary School

Summary:

Bridgeport Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Frankfort, Kentucky, serving grades PK-5 with a total enrollment of 399 students. The school is part of the Franklin County School District, which is ranked 120 out of 159 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Bridgeport Elementary has consistently been ranked in the bottom half of Kentucky elementary schools, with a 1- or 2-star rating from SchoolDigger over the past decade. The school underperforms the Franklin County and Kentucky state averages on the Kentucky Summative Assessment, with only 36-65% of students proficient or better in core subjects. Bridgeport also struggles to effectively serve its student subgroups, with significant achievement gaps for female, male, white, special education, and low socioeconomic status students.

Despite higher-than-average per-student spending and a relatively low student-teacher ratio, Bridgeport Elementary has not been able to translate these resources into improved academic outcomes. The nearby Elkhorn Elementary, Hearn Elementary, and Peaks Mill Elementary schools also struggle with low performance, suggesting broader systemic issues within the Franklin County district that need to be addressed.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The rankings can "scare" you, but this school is truly amazing. The test scores are lower because it is a PASS school. Pretty much they are the school all the troubled kids and kids having trouble come to. The teachers genuinely care. The principal genuinely cares. The staff at this school will stand on their heads and scoot backwards if they think it will help your child learn. There is a special atmosphere that can not be mimicked or falsified. I would highly recommend this school to people with children who are excelling in their schoolwork as well as to parents who's children are struggling. Bridgeport accommodates both. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
