Riley High School's four-year graduation rate has been around 81-84% in recent years, which is lower than the state average and some nearby schools like Adams High School (87.6%) and Jimtown High School (92.2%). Additionally, the school has a high chronic absenteeism rate, ranging from 46.4% to 59.0% in recent years, which is significantly higher than the state average and nearby schools.

Additionally, the school's spending per student has increased from $10,502 in 2018-2019 to $15,330 in 2021-2022, which is higher than the spending at some nearby schools like Clay High School ($12,340) and Jimtown High School ($11,255). This increased spending may be an effort to address the school's academic and attendance challenges. While Riley High School faces significant challenges, the school's diverse student population and targeted interventions suggest that there may be opportunities to improve overall student outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My daughter had a choice between Riley and Adams. She shadowed at both schools and picked Riley! I was kind of worried with the schools grade at 1st but now she is a sophomore and her decision to attend Riley is the Best decision she could of made! The teachers actually care about what they are teaching! Mr. Henderson the principal is the Greatest! I have never seen a principal attend athletic events! Mr. Henderson not only attends these events but takes pictures with the athletes, students, and fans! Riley’s engineering program is one of the best as well as the CTE program! My daughter is college ready as a sophomore taking honors advanced and AP classes! She’s a straight A student and participates in 2 sports. Please don’t look at Riley’s ratings and think this is a bad school because it’s actually one of the best High schools in SBCSC! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
