Lincoln Elementary School

Summary:

Lincoln Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Roselawn, Indiana, serving grades K-6 with a student population of 268. The school is part of the North Newton School Corporation, which is ranked 192 out of 381 school districts in Indiana and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While Lincoln Elementary School has a significantly higher percentage of white students (83.58%) compared to the surrounding schools, it has experienced a significant increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 10.1% in 2020-2021 to 25.0% in 2022-2023, which is much higher than the surrounding schools. Additionally, the school's test scores in ILEARN/English Language Arts and ILEARN/Math are generally lower than the North Newton School Corporation and the state of Indiana averages, particularly in the 4th and 5th grade levels. The school also has a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 53.1% to 63.74% over the past three years, which is significantly higher than the surrounding schools.

Despite the higher spending per student at Lincoln Elementary School compared to the surrounding schools, such as Porter Lakes Elementary School, Hebron Elementary School, and Lake Prairie Elementary School, the academic performance of the school has not shown a corresponding improvement. This suggests that factors beyond just funding may be contributing to the school's challenges, which include a declining statewide ranking and a lower performance compared to nearby schools in other districts.

Open Quote Lincoln elementary was the worst school ever. They like to listen but do not comply with what they tell you they will do. They have every answer on why and do not accept blame for anything. Thank god there is now open enrollment in IN. There are other schools in the next county that are actually closer but have a much better rating a more understanding and compassionate principal who cares for the kids best interest and not just the schools numbers or ratings. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
