While McCarty Elementary School has a relatively high per-student spending of $14,579, the school has consistently underperformed compared to the district and state averages in both English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics proficiency. In the 2023-2024 school year, only 23.2% of students were proficient or better in ELA, compared to 61.2% for the district and 41.2% for the state. Similarly, only 15.6% of students were proficient or better in Mathematics, compared to 53.2% for the district and 28.4% for the state. The school also struggles to support the academic achievement of various student subgroups, ranking in the bottom 25% of Illinois elementary schools for Asian, African American, Hispanic, White, English Language Learner, Special Education, and Low Socioeconomic Status students.

When comparing McCarty Elementary School to nearby schools within the same district, such as White Eagle Elementary, Nancy Young Elementary, and Gwendolyn Brooks Elementary, the academic performance gap is quite significant. These nearby schools consistently outperform McCarty Elementary School in both ELA and Mathematics proficiency, as well as in other key metrics like chronic absenteeism and subgroup performance. This suggests that the school may need to implement targeted interventions and strategies to address these challenges and ensure that the available resources are effectively supporting student learning and achievement.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Special needs Parents , please don't make a move to this worst school. We moved all the way from Calgary, Alberta just reading reviews of this school and the school Dist. and the reviews proved wrong , may be they were posted by the Administrators of this school.the school don't have any ILC classrooms or Sensory rooms for the special need kids. WE invested in a house right behind MacCary thinking that our son can walk to the
school. BIG MISTAKE! Now in this market we are not even able to sell for the price we got the house for. Pls don't read the reviews and move. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
