Charles J Sahs Elementary School

Summary:

Charles J Sahs Elementary School is a public elementary school serving 313 students in grades PK-8 in Chicago, Illinois, which is part of the Central Stickney School District 110. This high-performing school consistently outperforms the state and district averages in both English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics proficiency across all grade levels.

One of the school's key strengths is its exceptional performance for specific student subgroups. In 2023-2024, Charles J Sahs Elementary School ranked in the top 25% of Illinois elementary schools for Hispanic students and English Language Learners in both ELA and Mathematics. The school also ranked in the top 5% for low-socioeconomic status students in ELA. This suggests the school has effective strategies and support systems in place to address the needs of these populations.

While Charles J Sahs Elementary School is performing well, it is surrounded by several lower-performing schools in the Chicago Public Schools district, such as Hearst Elementary and Acero Charter - SPC Zizumbo Elementary, which have significantly lower proficiency rates and higher chronic absenteeism. The school's high per-student spending of $22,995 in 2022-2023 suggests a focus on providing resources and support to students, which may contribute to its academic success.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I graduated from this school already (not to long ago) this was the best school I have had all my other schools I was too young to notice that were bad but now I notice. This school was not just a school to me it was a home. I had so many memories there. I visit the school during special events. This school does not deserve the 2 stars it has been given it deserves 5 enormous stars. If you transfer here you will not regret it. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
