Rich Township High School faces significant challenges in academic achievement, with only 3.7% of 11th-grade students proficient or better in SAT Mathematics and 9.9% proficient or better in SAT English Language Arts, compared to state averages of 26.1% and 31.1%, respectively. The school's performance on the Illinois Science Assessment is also below the state average, with only 26.7% of students proficient or better. Additionally, the school's four-year graduation rate has fluctuated between 80.9% and 84.5%, lower than the state average, and its dropout rate has been higher than the state average, ranging from 1.5% to 5.2% in recent years. Compared to nearby high schools, such as Tinley Park High School and Hillcrest High School, Rich Township High School's academic performance, graduation rates, and chronic absenteeism rates are generally worse. However, Southland College Prep Charter High School, which is also located near Rich Township High School, outperforms it in several key metrics, including higher graduation rates, lower chronic absenteeism, and better academic performance. These comparisons suggest that targeted interventions and a focus on addressing the school's unique demographic and socioeconomic factors could be crucial in driving positive change and better outcomes for its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote THIS SCHOOL ALLOWS BULLYING. My daughter has been getting bullied. I’ve been up to the school, had a meeting with one parent, but the other child and her parent decided not to show up, and that is the girl STILL BULLYING MY CHILD. The teacher told my daughter to “handle it the right way”. My instructions to my daughter was to NOT interact with that girl, yet I have a teacher telling my daughter to “handle” it. If you try to take up for yourself, you get put in in-school detention. My daughter is currently a straight “A” student, but I am watching her self esteem slowly go away. I can’t wait to get my daughter out of this school at the end of the year.

There are fights at this school 5 days a week, kids getting “jumped” every other day. It’s like a war zone there. The PTSD these kids must have once they graduate...smh. I don’t understand how kids can learn in an environment like this. And this was supposed to be one of the better schools in the south suburbs. I’m a Registered Nurse and am working to get OUT of this school district. I don’t have time for the ghetto-ness of this place! WHATEVER YOU DO, DON’T MOVE INTO THE RICH SCHOOL DISTRICT! About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
