The Elise Ford Allen Academy

Summary:

The Elise Ford Allen Academy is an elementary school in Peoria, Illinois, serving 624 students in grades K-8. Unfortunately, this school has consistently ranked among the lowest-performing elementary schools in the state, with a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger for the past several years.

The school faces significant challenges, including extremely high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 44.2% to 66.0% over the past few years. Academically, the school's proficiency rates on state assessments are alarmingly low, with only 0% to 7.4% of students meeting standards in English Language Arts and 0% to 3% in Mathematics. The school's performance is particularly concerning for African American students, special education students, and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, who rank in the bottom 10-15% of Illinois elementary schools. Despite relatively high spending per student, ranging from $10,865 to $23,360, the academic outcomes do not reflect the level of investment.

When compared to nearby schools within the Peoria School District 150, the performance gap is significant. For example, Whittier Primary School, less than a mile away, outperforms The Elise Ford Allen Academy across multiple academic measures. The Elise Ford Allen Academy's persistent low performance, despite the resources invested, suggests that the school may be facing a complex set of challenges that require a comprehensive, data-driven approach to identify and address the root causes of its struggles.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote At Roosevelt magnet the students come first I am one myself and I am graduating 8th grade 2 weeks prior from today, I have been in dance and drama advanced and have learned new things like how to perform different types of characters and have discovered different techniques I can use to stay in shape. Roosevelt has developed my dancer mind and body. My teachers are excellent! especially Mrs.Dodds my literature teacher she will push you to the limit and makes me do things that are hard to overcome but it is all for my benefit I have gained so much from her. All of my teachers have benefited and gave me hope and it shines through my work I will miss everything dearly - Thea Clark Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
