Lincoln Elementary School

Summary:

Lincoln Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Brookfield, Illinois, serving grades PK-5 with a total enrollment of 416 students. The school is part of the Lyons School District 103, which is ranked 610 out of 813 school districts in Illinois and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Lincoln Elementary School faces several challenges, including high chronic absenteeism rates, lower academic performance compared to the district and state averages, and uneven performance across different student groups. The school's chronic absenteeism rates have significantly increased from 2.5% in 2019-2020 to 46.8% in 2022-2023, which is notably higher than the nearby Costello School (40.8%) and J.W. Robinson Junior Elementary School (29.8%). Academically, Lincoln Elementary School's performance, as measured by the percentage of students proficient or better in IAR/English Language Arts and IAR/Mathematics, is consistently lower than the Lyons School District 103 average and the state of Illinois average.

While Lincoln Elementary School has increased its spending per student from $14,576 in 2020-2021 to $19,561 in 2022-2023, which is higher than the district average, this increased spending has not yet translated into improved outcomes. The school's performance is generally lower than the nearby Costello School and J.W. Robinson Junior Elementary School, but significantly better than some of the schools in the neighboring La Grange School District 102, such as Congress Park Elementary School. Addressing the root causes of high absenteeism and learning from the successes of nearby higher-performing schools could be crucial for Lincoln Elementary School to improve its educational outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This is a great quiet school with an awesome prechool program. I do not understand why its rating is what it is?
Probably over some dumb technicality.
My kids actually love it better at this school than they did over at Ogden Elementary School in La Grange. Don't let the rating fool you. The school is just fine.
Most importantly my kids are happy and they are achieving good grades and actually show an interest in learning now. Close Quote

Open Quote The principal (Schumann) and teachers bring energy and emotional investment to the school. Most of the teachers are young and not jaded (yet). A couple of the teachers in particular have been directly responsible for helping my kids to overcome early obstacles and consequently shine at school. Aaaaand, they finally have air conditioning covering all of the classrooms. I truly love lincoln school. They care! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
