As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Lake Zurich high school has quietly become one of the finest high schools in the Chicago suburbs. What was once a sleepy resort area 40 years ago has developed into thee upper middle-class, go-to place for families to raise their children. My one complaint is that the high school and surrounding area have very little diversity. Out of roughly 2000 students at LZHS, only 6% are African American or Hispanic while nearby Barrington High School (17% African American & Hispanic) and Fremd (13% African American & Hispanic) more closely reflect our changing America. Many I speak with prefer their children to be exposed to a school that more closely reflects the population of the country. Additionally, low income students are very rare (7%) while Barrington, which has an upper income reputation, has almost double the amount (13%)and in Palatine, Fremd High School has one tenth of their students in the low income bracket which qualifies them for the state's "free lunch" program. The Lake Zurich Athletic programs are one of the finest in the state. The state champ football team has played in the championship game in 3 out of the last 5 years. This high school is getting better each year and is now in the top 25 in the state. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
