Eisenhower Junior High School has consistently performed above the state average in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics proficiency across all grade levels. In the 2023-2024 school year, the school's ELA proficiency rate was 47%, compared to the state average of 41.2%. In Mathematics, the school's proficiency rate was 34.4%, compared to the state average of 28.4%. However, the school has seen a steady increase in chronic absenteeism rates, from 3% in 2019-2020 to 19.4% in 2023-2024, which is higher than the state average. The school has performed well for African American and Hispanic students, ranking in the top half of Illinois middle schools in recent years, but has struggled with lower rankings for Asian and Special Education students. Eisenhower Junior High School has also seen a significant increase in spending per student, from $14,257 in 2019-2020 to $15,822 in 2022-2023, which is higher than the state average.

When compared to nearby schools, Eisenhower Junior High School's performance is mixed. While it outperforms some schools in test scores, it lags behind high-performing schools like Clarendon Hills Middle School and Gower Middle School in both academic achievement and student group performance. The school's challenges with chronic absenteeism and equity for certain student subgroups suggest the need for targeted interventions and a more strategic approach to resource allocation to enhance the educational experience and outcomes for all students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school is absolutely fantastic. Academics in the school are perfectly taught, and by teachers who are both patient and incredibly encouraging. Sports in the school give students key opportunities to shine and create strong friendships. This school is easy to adjust to, especially if you are new to Darien. In my opinion, and in the opinions of many others, this is a perfect school, in a perfect town, occupied by perfect students and faculty. The school also has many clubs students can develop a passion for, including our band (Which is also the most traveled band in the country, going to Los Angeles; Toronto, Canada;Hershey, Pennsylvania; Orlando, Florida; Washington State; etc.) supplying students with their own instruments, Choir,Creative writing club, and even the Duct tape club! Which was the students idea. And yes, students may create new clubs if they wish! On a scale of one to ten, I give this school an eleven! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
