Juliette Low Elementary School

Summary:

Juliette Low Elementary School is a public elementary school in Arlington Heights, Illinois, serving 270 students in grades K-5. The school is part of the Community Consolidated School District 59, which is ranked 424 out of 813 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Despite the school's relatively high spending per student, Juliette Low Elementary has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Illinois elementary schools, with a 3-star rating in 2015-2016 and 2013-2014, but dropping to a 1-star rating in recent years. The school's academic performance, as measured by standardized test scores, is generally below the state and district averages, with proficiency rates of 33.3% in English Language Arts and 27.5% in Mathematics, compared to the state averages of 41.2% and 28.4%, respectively. Additionally, the school has seen a significant increase in chronic absenteeism rates, rising from 4.8% in 2019-2020 to 28.5% in 2021-2022, which is notably higher than the state and district averages.

When compared to nearby schools within the same district, such as Forest View Elementary School, Juliette Low Elementary School generally underperforms, with significantly higher test scores and a higher overall ranking at Forest View. The wide gaps in performance between different student subgroups at Juliette Low Elementary School also suggest that the school may need to focus on addressing the specific needs of its more disadvantaged student populations, such as Hispanic students and students from low-income families.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Take my review with a grain of salt if you like, but consider yourself warned. HELL HOLE is a best I can describe this school. We did not last a whole year at this school, towards the end my kid was coming back from school crying everyday. Before year ended we decided to move him to expensive private school. Close Quote

Open Quote This school is nothing but wonderful! The teachers are really dedicated to making both my son and daughter work really hard in school. They get straight A's and are on the honor roll as this is a result to the great teachers here! They have a really good activities program that my kids love! I highly recommend this school to any parents looking to enroll their kids in. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
