Frazier Perspectives Magnet Elementary School

Summary:

Frazier Perspectives Magnet Elementary School is a public K-8 school in Chicago, Illinois, serving 131 students. The school is part of the Chicago Public Schools District 299, which is ranked 688 out of 813 districts in Illinois and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Frazier Perspectives has consistently low academic performance, with only 27.4% of students proficient or better in English Language Arts and just 9.1% of 8th-graders proficient or better in Mathematics, compared to district and state averages. The school's performance has declined over the years, with its statewide ranking dropping from 501 out of 2,052 Illinois elementary schools in 2014-2015 to 1,722 out of 2,067 in 2023-2024. Additionally, Frazier Perspectives has a very high chronic absenteeism rate of 41.0%, significantly higher than the district and state averages. The school serves a predominantly low-income student population, with 88.55% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch.

Interestingly, the nearby schools, such as Hughes C Elementary School, Herzl Elementary School, and KIPP Chicago Chrtrs - Ascend Academy, also have low academic performance and high chronic absenteeism rates, suggesting that the challenges faced by Frazier Perspectives are not unique but rather systemic issues within the district and the broader community. To address these challenges, a comprehensive approach focusing on improving attendance, providing additional academic and social-emotional support, and addressing the broader socioeconomic factors impacting student learning may be necessary.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The teachers and staff Frazier have a commitment to the IB (International Baccalaureate) education. Students leave the school as globally minded individuals. The class sizes are small and it is like having a private school in the neighborhood! The school is lottery based so you have to make sure to sign up. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
