Open Quote This school is absolutely amazing. The principal, staff, therapists and teachers are all very committed and care deeply for the students and families. They are professional and highly trained to work with children on the spectrum as wells as many other special needs. The school has a beautiful garden, a new track and an awesome playground. The building is always clean and well maintained. I am a parent of a pre-k student. Our family has made friends with other families and we have play dates with our kids. There are a wonderful group of parents committed to being involved in the school and we have just started the Friends of Beard (www.friendsofbeard.org), a 501c3 dedicated to fundraising to support Beard School. If you have a child on the spectrum or with other special needs please consider this school. I have seen my own child as well as other students make great progress in this environment. The school supports instructional programs from Pre-K through 3rd grade and also offers a blended Pre-K program. This is one of the best schools in CPS. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
