Clinton Elementary School

Summary:

Clinton Elementary School is a public elementary school serving 1,016 students in grades PK-8 in Chicago, Illinois. The school faces significant challenges, with high chronic absenteeism rates, consistently lower test scores compared to the district and state averages, and struggles in serving certain student subgroups effectively.

Clinton Elementary School's chronic absenteeism rates have ranged from 14.5% to 39.6% in recent years, significantly higher than the nearby Jamieson Elementary, Stone Elementary Scholastic Academy, and Decatur Classical Elementary schools, which have rates ranging from 15.2% to 40.6%. In the 2023-2024 school year, only 26.1% of Clinton students were proficient or better in ELA, compared to 30.5% for the Chicago Public Schools District 299 and 41.2% for the state of Illinois. In math, only 18.5% of Clinton students were proficient, compared to 18.3% for the district and 28.4% for the state.

Clinton Elementary School's statewide ranking has declined over the years, from 977 out of 2,052 Illinois elementary schools in 2014-2015 to 1,497 out of 2,067 in 2023-2024, placing it in the bottom 25% of Illinois elementary schools. This underperformance is particularly concerning given that the school has a very high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, with 90.55% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch in 2022-2023. Despite increased spending per student, from $10,993 in 2019-2020 to $15,020 in 2022-2023, the school has not seen significant improvements in academic outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
