Iowa Elementary

Summary:

Iowa Elementary is a public elementary school in Nampa, Idaho, serving around 490 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Nampa School District, which is ranked 69 out of 77 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Iowa Elementary faces several challenges, including a significantly higher chronic absenteeism rate (ranging from 33.7% to 37.0%) compared to nearby schools, as well as lower test scores on the ISAT (Idaho Standards Achievement Test) across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in 2023-2024, only 32.3% of Iowa Elementary students were proficient or better in ISAT Math, compared to 27.2% for the Nampa School District and 42.2% for the state. The school also has a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 51.48% to 61.63% in recent years, which is significantly higher than the nearby schools.

Despite these challenges, Iowa Elementary has a more diverse student population compared to the nearby schools, with a higher percentage of Hispanic students (around 38%) and a lower percentage of White students (around 56%). Interestingly, while the school's overall performance is lower than the state and district averages, its Hispanic students have performed better than its White students in recent years, ranking 26 out of 58 Idaho elementary schools for Hispanic students in 2023-2024. However, the school's statewide ranking among Idaho elementary schools has declined over the years, from 113 out of 171 in 2018-2019 to 246 out of 301 in 2023-2024, with a consistent 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My son has attendend Iowa for two years and I have NOT been impressed. I feel that the running of the school is extremely disorganized and inefficient. The principal and staff have time and again showed a 'circle the wagons' attitude when problems arose. Favortism is also strongly evident in the treatment of the children. (my son has been on both sides depending upon the teacher) The school says it has a no bullying policy, but in my experience the teachers and principal brushed it off with a kids will be kids attitude. Unfortunately, the school offers no programs for those children who are advanced for their grade level. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
