Pine Hill Middle School

Summary:

Pine Hill Middle School is a public middle school located in Hephzibah, Georgia, serving grades 6-8 with a total enrollment of 582 students. The school is part of the Richmond County School District, which is ranked 176 out of 203 districts in Georgia and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger. Unfortunately, Pine Hill Middle School has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Georgia middle schools over the past 10 years, with its highest ranking being 401 out of 521 schools in the 2013-2014 school year.

Pine Hill Middle School faces significant challenges in academic performance, with consistently low proficiency rates on state assessments, a high concentration of economically disadvantaged students, and lower spending per student compared to nearby schools. The school's proficiency rates range from just 3.4% in 8th grade Science to 26.2% in 6th grade English Language Arts, significantly lower than the state averages of 25.6% and 41.6%, respectively. Additionally, Pine Hill Middle School has an extremely high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 97.87% to 97.94% over the past three school years, which is much higher than the state and district averages.

When compared to other nearby schools, Pine Hill Middle School's academic performance lags behind. For example, the Lakeside Middle School, Evans Middle School, and Grovetown Middle School in the Columbia County district significantly outperform Pine Hill Middle School and the other Richmond County schools in academic proficiency rates. These factors suggest that Pine Hill Middle School may face significant challenges in providing a high-quality education to its students.

Open Quote I would give zero stars if I could. This school is in serious need of new and strong leadership. Administration is a complete joke. The troubled children who continue to have behavior problems seem to get the preferred treatment, while the one's who are well behaved and are even bullied suffer. If you have the choice- STAY AWAY FROM THIS SCHOOL! They have ZERO respect for parents who actually stay involved in what is going on in their children's lives. Kids having sex in the bathrooms while it's being recorded, smoking weed/cigarettes on school grounds, things on school buses happening and then students being told to delete the video if they have it because the actions are embarrassing to said student who was playing with himself on the bus- that if they don't delete, THEY will be the one in trouble. Again, favoring these troubled students over truly keeping students SAFE is the only priority administration at this school has. Like I said, stay away if you value your children! Close Quote

Open Quote It is only the 3rd week of school and we have had nothing but issues with this school. They told us the WRONG time to drop our kid off at school, the car rider line to pick up my child is ridiculous and all they say is "get here as early as you can," they told us we would have class dojo information the first day of school and we didnt get it until today (3rd week), and my child has sensitive skin and gets red all the time and they forced us to come pick her up marked her absent and now she has no opportunity to have perfect attendance even though she was fine. I am so unhappy with this school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
