Diamond Lakes Elementary School

Summary:

Diamond Lakes Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Hephzibah, Georgia, serving grades PK-5 with a total enrollment of 466 students. The school is part of the Richmond County School District, which is ranked 176 out of 203 districts in Georgia and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Diamond Lakes Elementary consistently ranks in the bottom 10% of Diamond Lakes Elementary School in Georgia, with significantly below-average performance on the Milestones Assessment compared to the Richmond County and Georgia state averages. For example, in 2023-2024, only 13.7% of 3rd graders, 7.5% of 4th graders, and 21.4% of 5th graders were proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to the Richmond County averages of 20.6%, 16.9%, and 26.9%, respectively. The school's performance in Mathematics is also low, with only 16.4% of 3rd graders, 13.8% of 4th graders, and 11.4% of 5th graders proficient or better, compared to the Richmond County averages of 22.7%, 19.9%, and 16.2%.

Despite the low academic performance, Diamond Lakes Elementary School has a relatively high per-student spending and a lower student-teacher ratio compared to the nearby schools, such as Wheeless Road Elementary School, Freedom Park Elementary, and Glenn Hills Elementary School. This suggests that the school may be allocating resources in ways that are not effectively improving student outcomes, and there may be opportunities to re-evaluate the use of resources and staffing to better support student learning.

Open Quote Diamond Lakes has a friendly staff and they have lots of things to offer my children. Afterschool care, dance clubs, technology clubs, cooking club, etc. My children have been to various schools in this county but they seem the happiest at Diamond Lakes. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
